Joseph Joy was born and raised in south Louisiana and that experience has influenced his legal practice over the years. He was born in New Orleans and grew up in Morgan City, Louisiana. During his high school years, he worked part-time jobs in the oilfield. In college, he worked on the rigs where he learned the industry firsthand. He knows the important role it plays in Louisiana but also saw a lot of accidents that injured workmen. So it’s no wonder that Attorney Joseph Joy has had exceptional experience litigating cases involving the environment, oilfield worker injuries and medical malpractice.
The three are really tied together, Joseph Joy explains. “When I was working as a college student out in the oil field, I saw a lot of accidents and kept saying to myself that there had to be a better way. I saw oil field workers sustaining injuries and then not getting properly compensated. I wanted to change that so I became an attorney,” he said.
“I love the outdoors and I cherish the environment of south Louisiana. It hurts me and our communities to see are beautiful wetlands, bayous and waterways damaged by those who are reckless. My law firm, Joseph Joy & Associates, specializes in environmental litigation, whether it is damage to the environment or to someone’s private property from groundwater contamination, discharges, leaks, or just careless construction practices.”
Joseph Joy will also tell you stories involving physicians committing medical malpractice while treating serious oilfield injuries. “I have helped clients obtain the funds they need for their medical care because the insurance company has tried to lowball them. This has happened in many cases involving serious spine injuries sustained by oil field workers. The oil field is a challenging environment and the employer has the duty to make it a safe one. When a worker is asked to do more than a one man can physically handle, it’s no surprise that they suffer life changing injuries. They need to be compensated for that,” said Joseph Joy.
Joseph Joy earned his law degree from Loyola School of Law in New Orleans. He began his practice in Morgan City and then moved to Lafayette with his wife, Jane. They have been married 45 years, have 4 kids and 9 grandchildren.
