‘Tis the season to be jolly, but according to one study, that does not necessarily apply to Louisiana drivers during the holiday season. GasBuddy.com conducted a study that revealed that drivers in the U.S. are nearly 200% more aggressive and fuel wasting during the holidays.
Louisiana ranks #4 in the country for the number of aggressive events per driver. The company defines an aggressive event as quick accelerating, hard braking, speeding. Aggressive driving habits occur most during the beginning of the holiday season, “with most instances happening during the drive to the holiday destination versus the return from.” Apparently, many drivers are more concerned with reaching their destination than practicing safe driving habits. That’s unfortunate, because many of the car accidents with personal injury that are litigated by the lawyers at Joseph Joy and Associates involve aggressive and negligent drivers. It is a formula for car wrecks resulting in personal injury lawsuits.
Georgia, California and Texas top the list of states with the ‘scroogiest’ drivers. Here is the top ten list of states with the most aggressive holiday drivers:
1. Georgia
2. California
3. Texas
4. Louisiana
5. South Carolina
6. Florida
7. Arizona
8. Tennessee
9. Mississippi
10. Oklahoma
GasBuddy examined tens of millions of drives in the fifty states and Washington D.C. from Nov. 21 –25, 2018, noting the frequency of an aggressive event per driver, whether it be speeding, hard braking or accelerating.
Clearly, aggressive driving habits puts others in harm’s way, increasing the risk of accidents with personal injury on the road. Louisiana State Police are on the lookout for aggressive drivers including those who fail to obey speed limits and follow too closely. Don’t be a tailgator and report hazardous drivers to authorities.
